Braided Waters
Ceramic Art by Steve Heuer
About my work
Sculptural Ceramic Art
My work is inspired by the playful wave-forms of moving water, the drifting of snow and sand, and the sensual curves of the human form. I carve and hand-shape slabs of clay into free-standing forms that I call drifts. Each of my drifts are one-of-a-kind (I never do duplicates). Many hold impressions of desiccated prairie plants, fossils, shells, and other mostly organic lifeforms that I find on my walks in the driftless ridge-tops and coulees of southwestern Wisconsin.
Subtly nuanced, each drift tells one story under daylight and another at night catching candlelight beautifully, evoking ancient cave art and pictographs.
My work-shop sits high on a breezy ridgetop in the beautiful driftless region of southwestern Wisconsin.
